Moonspoon Saloon is here to take your breath away – to a magical, wonderful place where no one has been brave enough to take fashion before. In fact, bravery, along with creativity and a healthy predilection for the weird, all seem to be one of the many variables in the algebraic equation that is the spirit of this Danish fashion collective. Moonspoon Saloon’s collections are whimsical, but always explode with limitless imagination. You could even call Moonspoon stream of consciousness fashion. In the Moonspoon universe fashion is performance art: a grand, dadaist experiment in the “character” behind the clothing. Their new collection, entitled Cabinet of Wounds, is inspired by “the wounds of the soul.” The current lookbook, which is set in old cemetery, looks like a voodoo scrap book. Sara Sachs of Moonspoon Saloon, a collaboration between designer Sara Sachs and painter Tal R., had some incredible answers to a few questions posed by Pas Un Autre.

Incredibly festive and a whole lot more than a pure alien circus, those were my impressions at Sara Sachs' Moonspoon Saloon collection at City Hall. The handpainted shoes with platform soles soaring toward stilts provoked cheers and matched a colored fox jacket in patchwork in a delightfully unusual way. Believe it or not!
And just like that, the Moonspoon parade turned into one long march in wacky clothes infused with avant-garde art, while the guests seated beside me gave up trying to figure out if they were getting pranked or being treated seriously. I would opt for the latter, and everyone was seriously entertained. And the folks at Moonspoon can laugh all the way to the bank. Their clothes are sold with hefty price tags both internationally and locally. Rock stars and avant-gardists are going nuts over this Danish label.

Composed of a four-person design team, Moonspoon Saloon includes photographer Noam Griegst, stylistMelanie Buckhave, designer Sara Sachs and Israeli artist Tal R, the collective offered perhaps the most conceptual show at City Hall during CFW. The show was half performance and half runway where the models walked with eery grooming resembling Elvira or the Addams family and paired with elaborate props.

The quartette showed silks and leather silhouettes inspired by the Cabinet of Wound's and integrated character faces that had been constructed directly into the garments. While only producing 99 copies of each look, do not mistake these for a novelty, for every extravagant piece there is a consumer-friendly look made of summer wool, printed jersey or a skillfully crafted knit - perhaps this is a result of Sachs time in Los Angeles where she designed the entire collection.
